As in the first edition, the authors present a unified view of concrete behavior based on basic principles. The material on workability of concrete is prefaced by a general discussion of the principle of rheology; mechanical properties are discussed from the point of view of concrete as a multiphase material; and the underlying chemistry of hydration and microstructure of hardened cement paste are emphasized. The result is a cohesive presentation of practical applications supported by detailed background information, which serves both the undergraduate and the practicing professional engineer.&#13;
